Salford Community Stadium

Greater Manchester

The remit was to construct an artificial grass pitch with dimensions of 104m x 62m to IRB 22 and FIFA 2* standards. The pitch would be for 5-a-side football and touch rugby and marked out to give 3m run off all round within the 104m x 62m area, complete with fencing.

The design was approved for a 65mm carpet laid on to 25mm depth of dynamic E layer shock pad consisting of a graded carboniferous limestone material to form dynamic base with rubber shock pad over. The carpet was backfilled with rubber and sand infill. Play lines were tufted in for rugby during the laying operation.

Sockets for rugby posts were installed below the carpet during construction with bespoke synthetic grass covered caps.

Fencing consisted of 5.00m high sports ball stop netting, behind the main goals centrally in the end runs, installed above the 3.00m high fencing on extended RHS posts at approx 9.00m centres as an integral part of the fence line, to achieve the 8.00m high overall fence height.
