Guards’ New Polo Lawns at a Canter

Following a competitive tender process, White Horse Contractors were selected by the Guards Polo Club to deliver a design and build solution including full earthworks, drainage, attenuation and cultivation works.
  • The drainage system comprised of 25,000 linear meters of primary drainage pipe work, installed laterally across the width of the lawns at 6-metre intervals.
  • Over 120,000 tonnes of subsoil and topsoil were moved to create the new lawns.
  • 3000 tonnes of specially selected sports sand were spread.

Ascot Racecourse Construction

White Horse Contractors Ltd completed the track reconstruction and realignment works at the historic Racecourse, as part of the extensive £210m redevelopment programme.

  • 17 miles of pipe drainage to the sub-base, using specialist Mastenbroek sportsfield trenchers and Househam backfilling hoppers.
  • Over 90,000 tonnes of materials, sand and aggregates were prepared and laid in the construction of the track to the highest tolerances.
  • 75,000m2 of turf was laid on the flat track, using turf grown especially for Ascot.

Polo Field and Exercise Track Construction

White Horse Contractors were appointed to construct a full size polo field, stick and ball play area, synthetic exercise track and practice arena, and irrigation reservoir. The project included extensive earthworks, drainage, fencing and associated external works.

  • Installation of 13,000 metres of pipe drainage and almost 900 metres of irrigation pipework to the sub-base
  • The lake was re-designed and constructed incorporating a fully automatic irrigation system.
  • 3,600 m2 exercise track and arena around the perimeter of the stick and ball practice field.

Arena and Stable Block Construction

White Horse Contractors were appointed by Lee Valley Regional Park Authority to carry out refurbishment works at Lee Valley Riding Centre, to the 60m x 20m riding arena, including new drainage system, fencing, membranes and surface.

  • New drainage system, fencing, membranes and surface.
  • Extensive pipe drainage system to both arenas.
  • Arenas were finished off with an equestrian silica sand surface, reinforced with synthetic fibre.
  • Shingle courtyard and timber post and rail fencing
